History
Carrickfergus is one of County Antrim's oldest settlements and one of Ireland's earliest towns. It was for a long time both larger and more prominent than the nearby city, and it predates even Belfast by many decades. Once the administrative center for Carrickfergus Borough Council before being merged in 2015 into the Mid and East Antrim District Council, Carrickfergus is a townland that became an important center for the textile industry in the 1970s.
Tourist Attractions
Being one of Ireland's oldest towns, Carrickfergus offers so many historical sites that date back centuries. It is a prime destination for tourists who want to visit old sites and learn more about the country's rich history. Home to Carrickfergus Castle, which the Scots, Irish, English, and French frequently besieged over the years, Carrickfergus is definitely a town to visit when in Northern Ireland. The Knockagh Monument, Carrickfergus Marina, and Marine Gardens are also well-loved tourist destinations and worth a visit.

Similar to nearby towns in Northern Ireland, Carrickfergus has a temperate climate with few extreme temperatures. It receives a lot of rainfall throughout the year, with the most rain occurring in January. The temperature varies from 2.8°C to 17.8°C throughout the year, rarely dipping below -1.1°C or exceeding 21.1°C.
